Nokia today
Nokia is a leader in mobile communications, enabling mobility through its different businesses.
Our Devices & Services business creates innovative mobile products for people around the world.
Together with Microsoft, Nokia has been building a global ecosystem that offers people a distinct alternative to iOS and Android. Our aim is to deliver differentiated and innovative products to people around the world. We believe – like the millions of people who have already bought into the ecosystem – that Windows Phone and the broader Windows platform offer unique and compelling experiences that make Nokia Lumia smartphones stand out.
Through its home-grown software platforms, Series 30 and Series 40, Nokia has also been leveraging its innovation and strength in growth and developed markets around the world, connecting even more people to their first Internet and application experience and providing consumers with powerful and very affordable mobile products.
In September 2013, Nokia announced that it has entered into an agreement with Microsoft whereby Microsoft would purchase substantially all of Nokia’s Devices & Services business.
The Next Chapter
Following the transaction – which is still subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions – Nokia plans to focus on its three established businesses, each of which is a leader in enabling mobility in its respective market segment: NSN, a leader in network infrastructure and services; HERE, a leader in mapping and location services; and Advanced Technologies, a leader in technology development and licensing.
Over the past 150 years, Nokia has evolved from a riverside paper mill in southwestern Finland to a global telecommunications leader connecting over 1.3 billion people. During that time, we’ve made rubber boots and car tires. We’ve generated electricity. We’ve even manufactured TVs. Changing with the times, disrupting the status quo – it’s what we’ve always done. And we fully intend to keep doing it.
